REWORD - A 6 letter word game |
|
|
This is a clone of a great Flash game called TextTwist I found on the Net a while ago.
Updates: Now includes GP2X F200 Touchscreen support - many thanks to Micah Stetson (v0.5) Also includes two new game modes: Speed6 and TimeTrial (v0.4)
The basic idea is, you have a 6 letter word that has been jumbled up and you must find as many of the 3, 4 5 and 6 letter words that can be made from it in the time allowed. You must get at least one 6 letter word to progress to the next level.
The dictionary I am using is a British word list I found (sorry can't remember where, but if I do I'll include a credit) that seems to hold a reasonable selection, which once filtered for just 3-6 letter words contains about 7500 words. The word list can be replaced or amended, and uses an additional utility I wrote that formats the list ready for the game.
Any feedback or suggestions welcome.

i love this game!!! thanks! |

Thanks Mr2X, I'll correct that on the next update, which will probably just be dictionary changes and maybe some graphics (no bugs reported yet). |

31-Oct-06, released v0.2
Fixes a few things (see README) including launch script (was .gpu, now renamed to .gpe and bin has no ext) and doesn't crash on exit. |

My wife loves playing this game, she's a big Text Twist fan from my days of owning a Palm. Thanks so much! |

Excellent game! It works like a charm and it's very addictive. You write that you have a utility to format word lists for use with the game. Is it available for download? Thank you, and keep up the good work. |

23-Nov-06: Thanks for the comments. It's nice to see 'some' people like word games as well as all the action games, although only 275 downloads so far...
Anyway, yes, I did write a utility to preformat any wordlists used in Reword and once I get it cleaned up a bit I will post it along with the Reword game code. Hopefully this will be in the next few days. I'm still playtesting and refining the wordlist so there might be a update soon too.
All the words (I have checked so far) are in the Oxford English Dictionary, but does anyone think the words are too obscure, too easy, just about right? |
|
|
purplepup, thank you for your reply. I look forward to the next version of the game and word list. To be perfectly honest, I think the current list is a bit obscure. Then again, English is not my mother tongue. |

Playing this most days. Would be really nice to have definitions for the 6 letter words. While we're at it, how about a 7, 8 or 9 letter word version ?
This is great, lovely interface and very addictive. One of, if not the, best original (sort of) GP2X games out there ! |

Purplepup, just found this game and have to say its fantastic. A great alternative to the typical arcade stuff on here. I'd love to see more games like this. Thanks for a wonderful game, keep up the great work. |

2008-06-20, Can anyone having problems with touchscreen post the F200 device revision and firmware etc on the news forum post regarding the 0.5 release. Thanks. I'll try and find out what broke. |

Nice! This game looks amazing and is super addictive :) Thank you for including touchscreen support! |

Stormbringer, are you saying touchscreen worked for you, as some are having problems? If so can you (or anyone) give me a clue as to working version/firmware etc. Please post in the v0.5 release thread (https://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?showtopic=42692). Thanks. |

RogerCageot, yes, any single-word per line wordlist is supported by the utility, which is included in the source (also in this file archive - source section) and builds to a simple command line app. For word definitions, an open XML dictionary format is supported that i'm sure has some non-English versions. See source docs for info and web site. Have fun, and post the results if you can. |

There's a small bug in the "Speed 6" game. Sometimes (randomly?), you can choose the first letter but when you select the second letter, the first letter come back to the top line.
Need to go back to Reword main menu and start a new game.... |
