LittleGPTracker (a.k.a ‘The piggy’) is a sample based tracker currently under development. It implements the user interface of littlesounddj, a very famous tracker for the Gameboy platform. It currently supports 8 monophonic 16Bit/44.1Khz stereo channels as well as 16 channel midi output.

Whats a tracker?

If you dont know what a tracker is, why worry? Theres always wikipedia.org for ya.
I find this exteremely cool, although, there is another tracker. Oh well, choice is a good thing anyways.
TinMan:
A tracker is a music generation and playback-tool. The music is generated by small soundsamles, patterns, modulation of the soundsamples and multiple tracks of these patterns. The qualitiy of the music can vary from midi-like beeps to real orcestral tracks. Free music is found here: https://www.modarchive.com/ in the popular .mod format, but also in .s3m and .it files. A good player for these(on your gp2x) can be found here: https://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/OldPlay
TinMan:
Most of the music is electronic technostyle and retro-stuff. Many older games use the trackerformats as well.
MrPointless:
Amiga, SNES, N64 all used trackers, and they're still used today in most PC (and even GP32/2X) freeware and shareware. As well as Nintendo's handhelds.

MrPointless' comments are not quite right. Trackers *were* still used in most PC freeware/shareware. Over the last 2 years most PC shareware games have shifted to using ogg/wav sound & music as CPU and HD resources have improved. Even the PC demo scene has migrated away from trackers too, now preferring either mp3/ogg or (more commonly) internal synth engines. That said, trackers are ideal for demos and games on the GP2X as they use a lot less CPU than ogg/mp3.

OK, thanks for correcting me. I find it rare to see a free/shareware game that uses ogg or wav at the mo. Most of the magazines I relied on (while I was stuck on dial-up) have disappeared or dropped the disc and I still rarely download games. So apologies for the inaccuracy. :(

Got it to load up the samples but couldn't get any output no matter how hard I tried. Reading the reference stuff on the homepage didn't clear things up either. Better documentation needed!!
spen83:
@mr pointless, well if you rarely download games as you say, then you *will* find it rare to see free/shareware games using ogg/wav.
It's like saying I never really see End-Of-Level-Bosses in shoot-em-ups... cos I never play shoot-em-ups!
anyway this is a great little app looking forward to seeing how it develops.

I really like this tracker as it's well done for this handled. Shortcuts are well thinked. Still have some work to do on it but it's already fun to play.

Really nice piece of software, very intuitive to use once you learn the basics!
