| So what additional codecs does this support? What is different in this then the standard music/movie player? |

| Even with this app I have yet to get the Caanoo to play any type of video file. |

| Aha. It'll play MPEG II. Good quality too. |
|

| lavc audio, lavc video, and ssa subtitles work well.
mencoder input.avi -oac lavc -ovc lavc -sub subs.ssa -o output.avi -vf scale=320:240 |

| This is a lot better than the built in movie player. If I don't convert my movies to 320x240 it will show up with grey bars on the caanoo movie player, but on mplayer it will play it right, even if its 16:9. |

| Would it be possible to add an option to flip the video playback? Since I'm often playing videos off of a thumb stick, I can't prop the Caanoo up to watch videos. This would be remedied if I could rest the Caanoo upside-down. |

| StickmanL, open conf/mplayer.conf with UTF-8 supported text editor such as Notepad++, and add
vf="flip,mirror"

But currently its bit buggy, and the OSD Menu/Messages/Subtitles are not rotated with this option. |

| Modify : Add vf="flip,mirror,noformat=yv12" to your conf/mplayer.conf. Because its more stable. |

| The only format I can get to play properly are WMAs, and even then I can only get certain ones to play (season 5 of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" plays, but the earlier seasons don't). Is there any way to fix this? I am currently ripping videos off the internet with Real Player and converting them to WMAs. |

| wyatt415, have you tried using Badak (https://eng.kipple.pe.kr/doc/badak/) to convert your files? It'll resize everything to the native resolution of your Caanoo in avi format by default. |

| New version (september 2nd) is quite a bit faster, interface wise.
After some experimenting, I've found the best size:quality method is to use Handbrake with these settings:
Container: MP4
Picture Width: 320
(If keep aspect ratio is on, it will automatically set the appropriate height)
Video codec: MPEG-4
Constant Quality: 8 (Lessen if you want better quality video at cost of filesize)
Audio Codec: AAC
Samplerate: 24
(Setting samplerate lower has caused "essing" for me. Which is pretty damn annoying!)
Bitrate: 128
Then rename the final .M4V (or .MP4) file to .Avi
Leaving it as a MP4 for me caused it to be unwatchable, yet after renaming the extension, it played perfectly fine. |

| I followed RetroVortex's specs but get "Error! Initialization Failure" when I try to play the file. Frustrating. |

| Using Badak (StickmanL's recommendation), I get an AVI file that can be played with the built-in player, but NOT with MPlayer. Ho geez. |

| It works great, but when trying to play MP3 music with the lyrics attached (lrc file) breaks the program (this does not happen with MP3 music without lyric lrc appended)

| fenixero, you have to convert lrc file to UTF-8. Otherwise it can be break. |
|

| Also, you could change font when the text are not properly displayed. Copy .ttf file to font/ dir and change menu font/sub font on options menu. |
