Here you'll find how to:
* cut down to only 859 ROMsets (937MB instead of 1.9GB)
* extract subsets of the 599 games worth playing, or the 319 all-times best (with full listings of games and their rankings IMHO)
* implement LOTS of extra cheats: updated from May 18th 2000 to April 2009
* enabling screenshots
* add a one-click in-game menu reset .GPE
..plus ready-made game configurations (also saving your battery life). |

Nice idea! I have not tried it yet but have done a lot of work ! |
|
|
Good idea, and I am sure it involved a lot of hard work. However, within a few minutes I found 3 errors. Ninja Gaiden and DoDonPachi work great, but have been removed even in the "all" setting. The copy of Robocop that doesn't get deleted doesn't work, you'll need the 400kb rom version. Makes me wonder if anything else that works was deleted. If you choose this, keep a copy of your mame roms as backup before using this program. |

If WITHIN FEW MINUTES it seems to you that many months of work is flawed, either you're a genius and the other guy is a moron - OR, it's YOU making some wrong assumptions. ;-)
The basic idea here was to only keep the games you can actually play with, so I only kept those in English: "DoDonPachi" is Japanese, "Ninja Gaiden" was translated into "Shadow warrior (US)".
As for "the copy of Robocop that doesn't get deleted" (NONE gets deleted, by the way), it's one of the games I clearly warned of in "best.txt": <, but I already provided instructions on how to fix that.
And, by the way, "keep a copy of your mame roms" is a pretty dumb warning - when you come to think the .BAT leave your global ROMset untouched and only create copies of the ROMs in separate folders (no deleting of ROMS, not even mixing of them!).
Next time please don't go innuendo: why suspiciously wonder (and make people worry for nothing), when you can politely just ask? :-) |
|
|
Wow, you're kind of an ass, aren't you. By the way, your instructions aren't clear at all, not at all helped by your poor grasp of English (which may explain how I acknowledged the obvious hard work that was involved yet you somehow missed it).
Your poorly made read-me files said NOTHING about omitting Japanese games.
"However, most of them are different versions of the same game: either the English translation of a Japanese game, or a bugfixed next version, or a clone, etc."
Japanese VERSION.
Next time, provide better read me files and try not to act like an ass when you get some constructive criticism.

Sorry dude, I never meant to over-estimate your intelligence: 121 guys didn't need mommie to figure things out for themselves. (Also sorry for inviting you to politeness, a concept your puny mind patently fail to grasp. If you enjoy barking more insults, please do: that'll only prove my point, but don't expect me to waste more time on a vicious doggie. ;-) |

GREAT PACKAGE!!!
I have spent years pruning back my ROMS to the ones that are worth playing.
Your best.txt list is awesome and you have good taste in games :-)
Thanks for the hard work on this great package!

@bagmouse7: thank YOU! The appreciation of somebody who realizes the complexity (and the point) of the task, for having already tried it out for himself before, is worth double. :-) Feel free (or rather encouraged) to add to / substract from my best.txt and maybe post your own derivative list: I'm sure I may have missed some worthy ones, especially among the games of fighting (which I'm totally denied at @^_^@). I'm no Moses: those lists aren't set in stone, just a starting point for further improvement. (And so is the new CHEAT.DAT: some patient guy might want to compare the different cheats, so to only keep the best-working ones.) |

Very interesting concepts here. I haven't downloaded this yet - however thats because my Wiz is battery dead and I'm too lazy to bring it down to a pc (typing this on my playbook). but i have ordered a wall charger and will try it soon :) |
