Advanced Original Beat2X Step File Generator (Version 3.0, NEW 6/17/07) |
AndrewTheArt's Beat2x Beat Generator
What it is ********** A very simple "step file" (.bxe) generator for the Beat2x interpreter. Runs in Windows under the .NET framework (C#) and possibly Linux with Mono (not 100% sure on compatibility, though).
It basically plays any .wav, .mp3, .ogg , and possily other formats, while allowing you to create a .bxe file simultaneously with some key presses. It certainly beats going into Audacity and looking for the milliseconds.
Requirements ***********
(1) It accepts the .wav, .mp3, and .ogg file formats (and possibly/probably more. I haven't tried any more than this).
(2) No support for "patterns" yet (DEFINES) - this should come in a future update.
(3) You need to have the .NET framework installed to run this program. You can install it for Windows by following this link -
https://tinyurl.com/758p8
(4) Other than this, simply run "Beat2x Beat Generator.exe" in the "Files" folder, or use the shortcut to that file I've created for you. You will of course need to keep the entire "Beat2x Beat Generator v3" folder on your computer somewhere for later use.
Recent Updates/Enhancements as of 6/17/07 ***********
(1) OGG Support added in v3! This is an exciting development because this is the native format taken by Beat2x on the gp2x. However, the ogg wrapper I used seems to be a little slow - bear with it, please.
(2) New offset/delay controls to make up for the user's delayed reaction time after the timer stops and the recording starts (extremely important). Allows one to compensate for a dealy in the music and to generally fix problems with the audio and notes being out of sync on the gp2x.
(3) Now prompts the user to convert a non OGG (mp3, wav, etc) file into a OGG file by opening the file in a portable version of Audacity.
(4) Graphical addition that (as the user records the file) allows one to see what the file will basically look like on the gp2x screen!!
Comments on Kraven's Beat Generator ************ This was in no way to compete with Kraven's Pascal-based Step generator. I have the original idea, released a relatively crappy product, and he decided to improve on it. Now I'm releasing a more stable and functional product for your enjoyment. In fact, we're probably going to be working together on making a Beat2X step generator suite for all your Step2X needs (= So don't worry.
Important Notes for Linux Users - You CAN'T run this program (sorry!) ************ Mono (a implementation of the .NET framework for Linux) does NOT currently run this program. However, if it ever works one day, you will need to grab a copy of the "winmm.dll" file located in a WIndows install's system32 directory. I would have included it by default, but thought some people might be annoyed by seeing it in the zip folder :P

Nice improvment on the last one. Good to see you included the countdown timer and MP3 support :) We still have some improvments that can be made but as you know mate, we're going to sort that out later on... as well as the other aspects of the project we discussed before.
And so that everyone can see (and doesn't think I'm an evil ideas-theif) The only reason I released mine (aside from a lack of thought due to extreme tiredness) was that I don't like the .NET framework. Andrew and I have spent a long time discussing the whole thing and together have come up with some very good ideas benefitial to everyone and ourselves respectively. Next on the adjenda I reckon will be the built in OGG converter and Pack Manager (perhaps?) |

nice to see that you wont be discouraged by the other same application :) |
btw, make only a single release and update it, stop posting a lot of different release!!!! use the "update file" link under your release to update it.. |
^ That has never seemed to work well for me (= |

That screenshot is amazingly outdated

Uploaded a new version - while it's uploading, you can get a sneak preview download here - https://www.freewebs.com/andrewtheart/
Also, a recent screen shot is here

Any and all suggestions for this program are more than welcome! |
I'm releasing a new file for the updated version. This page is not updating correctly! Lol. |
In other words, you can delete this file |
Actually, DO NOT DELETE THIS.
I'd rather have it updated versus making a new file. |
Reminder for admins: PLEASE delete the new file I uploaded. |
The one I uploaded as a completely new file |

If you're having problems running this, try this file:
https://www.freewebs.com/andrewtheart/Beat2x%20Beat%20Generator%203%20Installer%2BStandalone.zip
Run setup.exe and everything should be fine. Basically, this wont run unless you already have the .NET framework installed or you run setup.exe, which will install the framework for you if necessary. |
If there is an interest in OGG support for this program, speak up here!!! |
6/17/07 - New version (v 3.0) coming out whenever the sites decides to post the file I uploaded. Some new features - OGG file support, OGG conversion (from mp3/wav/etc) using PortableAudacity, millisecond offset function (to compensate for out of sync audio/notes), and a new GUI addition that you will all find pretty nice, I think (= |
10/8/07 - Looking at the code, this should be fairly easy to port to Linux using Mono and their WinForms implementation, but it will require mplayer.
Version 4 will definitely support Linux. When is it coming out? A couple of months at least - I'm very busy. Might be a very long time. |

Hi.
Where is the Linux client? it's listed as runs under linux, yet the readme states i need .NET, so that pretty much rules out running it in wine... |
My mistake for putting this in the Linux category, but if you read around this page you'll quickly determine the status of the Linux client. For example, read the post right above yours. |

The Beat Generator for Linux is available here

Important note - you might need to convert the generator .bxe file to the Unix format. Use a tool like dos2unix to do this. |
