nice job. It outputs compliant configurations. Uses autoexec too! Keep going. Useful as hell. its a borland killer-app for any DOS fan, especially those of the demoscene and those who played older games. |

Oh yeah, you should add some combo boxes for configuring the video or that cpu selector thing, i forgot what it was. (you know, vga, hurcules, tandy etc) Also, frame skip is important. Ill expand on it if you release the source code. |

nmn, I will to do this today.
When I have added these I'll make a news post about it @gp32x.com. |

please add also the support for "not-character" keys, for example in you editbox it's impossible to map the Enter key, Alt or Ctrl |
|
|
That is already possible, qoute from readme:
"For F1 - F12 enter f1-f12.
For enter, space, minus, capslock, quote, space, up, down , left , right etc. just type the full name in the box.
For alt, shift, ctrl, enter lalt for left alt, enter ralt for right alt etc."
by the way, I have uploaded the new version with frameskip, soundblaster and pcspeaker configuration :). |

Why not make a combo box with all possible keys in it (ascii codes 33-64 plus 91-126, plus spacebar/alt/ctrl etc.) so people don't have to guess what they're called? eg. I wouldn't call it capslock, i would call it caps lock (two words) etc.! |

Everyones got a different idea about fixing keymapping. As a programmer, you have your choice between them all. personally, i believe the most widely used method is where each key is a button that, when clicked, creates a dialog waiting for input which will accept the key and print it into a string next to the button. of course, my programs are always nice and hard to use, so you should personally use it and test it on dosbox. keep in mind, it can be quite difficult to figure how to make windows not intercept the control alt and shift keys. I remember disabling the window and using directx's directinput component to recieve keyboard. i guess using directx is a bit bloated, though. As for the combo box, sort would need to be turned off, and it would need to be listed in a good order. for an example implementation, fire up microsofts pinball game, (startmenu>programs/all programs> games>pinball) and press f8. on the lower part of the dialog, notice the keyboard combo box.
One other, non common, but still good example is a button for each key and a dialog button-based keyboard popping up allowing you to select a key on it. you would prolly want to print the current keys on the main diag.
Its useful.. The only other thing you could really make good use of is loading and saving. Now, you could choose from these methods, i range them from personal best to personal last-effort:
1. parses any dosbox file, allowing you to load ones not generated by your app. An advantage is that most parsing methods allow for random order and unknown objects to not effect any loading.
2.Loading only unmodified configs generated from your app. This is reasonably easier.
3. having a custom config format you can use for save and load, then generate optionally anytime to load to dosbox.
but of course, those are a little complex for now. You dont need touch on loading, but if you decide to, maybe it'l work better in a later version.
thx for frameskip, still working great. |
