DROD (Deadly Rooms of Death) is a Dungeon crawling / Puzzle game developed by Caravel Games.
Its principle is simple: you inspect dungeons, you fight monsters with your sword, in turn-by-turn combats. But the silly architecture of these dungeons makes these fights extremely challenging and versatile.
DROD is considered by many of its fans as the best puzzle ever. One of its sequels, DROD - Journey to the Rotted Hold, won the Player's Choice Award of www.gametunnel.com in 2005.
As the GP2X screen is a bit small for this game, a zooming feature, allowing the user to display the whole DROD screen or to zoom on any part of it, is implemented.
DROD - Architect Edition is completely free. |

I love DROD :) I have drod-ae, drod-jtrh and drod-kdd installed on my Linux desktop so this is very welcome.
The zooming and the 'joypad look' is very useable. It would be nice to see some other high resolution games ported using this implementation (lgeneral for example).
I've played quite a bit of the first level and it plays extremely well, just like the desktop version.
Is there any sound or music? There are sound and music files in the folder but I'm not hearing anything.
In the readme you've got L as zoom-in and R as zoom-out except you have implemented it the other way around so you need to modify the readme.
When playing the game I press Select to use "game mode". When I pressed L+R+Select to quit back to the menu I thought the game or mouse had become unresponsive. In fact all I needed to do was press Select again to return to mouse mode. I think it might be useful if you automatically set user input to mouse mode when returning to the main menu.
All in all this is an excellent game on the GP2X.
Thanks for porting it. |

Ok so the game uses the proprietary FMOD and Firelight Technologies aren't going to port it to the GP2X, but you can download the API -> https://www.fmod.org/ifmoddownload.html and write an SDL wrapper :) It would be useful for porting other open source projects that use FMOD in the future. |

Good but there is no sound and it becomes unresponsive and laggy after a short period of time on the first level. |
