Works but it seems you cannot map fire jump crouch and alike to A/B or X/Y |
It works, but I couldn't configure it in a way that allowed jumping/shoot/crouch/open.
I suggest the following keymapping: DPAD WalkForward, Turnleft,TurnRight,WalkBackwards.
A:Shoot: B:Open
Y: Jump: X: Crouch
ShoulderLeft: NextWeapon
ShoulderRight: PrevWeapon
ShoulderLeft+X: Next Item
ShoulderLeft+X: Prev Item
ShoulderLeft+ShoulderRight: UseItem |

Yeah the control are a little prob and if i wanted to save nothing was going. I play with 320x200 because of tearing. I think about the game Shadow Warrior because it has the same engine but i dont become it to run with. Is it your next port? |
I could map buttons just fine... But I went to save and it just froze up. The little nuke icon was spinning but all buttons failed to work. Other that this, the port is great but kinda useless without saving.... |
Button mapping works fine, use keyboard mapping, not joystick. Also im aware of the save bug. |
How do you map 2 buttons at once? (eg. ShoulderLeft+ShoulderRight: UseItem) and does music work? (I've tried timidity with no luck!)
Another excellent job Pickle. :) |
Help, carnt get this to work! what files do you use? I have duke3d.grp and game.com ive tried renaming, the readme isnt too clear... |
When you save, complete level, rename or end game you can push every button nothing goes. The options doesnt save. Hope soon the bugs are fixed because its a great game and it looks so good on WIZ. |
An update is coming to fix the save button issue, if the game loads but has a black screen then the update hasnt been approved yet. |
Thanks for the update Pickle! Saves work great now! The mapping needs a bit of work now that I've had some more time to play around with it. Would be nice to be able to clear buttons. Example: Whenever I hit my "strife" button it uses my inventory item and I see no way to clear a mapped key. I guess I could probably just move it to another button but every button is essential with this game :) . Over all a great port! Thanks!! |

I know what you mean, the only way i can think of to clear assignments is to edit the config files directly in a text editor. |
Pickle, which one would I need to edit? I was going to do that but didn't know which one it was. |
There is a hidden folder, seems most the key assignments are saved in the bind config file, but if its in both I would change both |
I've found a way to clear all the keymappings, look here:
https://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?/topic/49837-eduke32-wont-start/page__pid__760725__st__0entry760725
Perhaps this could be added in the next release. (Along with music?) |

This is awesome. One thing that could make this port even better is if there was a touchscreen keypad available to input cheat codes, sort of like the Duke3D port done for the Tapwave Zodiac done by metaviewsoft https://www.metaviewsoft.de/en/Software/PalmOS/Freeware/Duke3D/index.html. |
Hee Hee! What fun! Makes me happy I kept that original Duke3D disc all these years! Bravo!!! |
EDuke is awesome, except... Do you have to define the keys EVERY TIME... or did I mess up something? |
Ok I didnt read all the previous comments so maybe one of your already mentioned this, but (in my opinion) control is easy and intuitive if mapped like this:
Left and right - strafe left and right
Up and down-walk forward and backwards
A and B- turn left and right
Y and X- aim up and down
(this mapping simulates the use of a mouse to aim)
L or R shoulder button is used to shoot, the rest is really up to the player's personal preference, just don't forget that you can assign function to the Sound + and - buttons and to the screen tap, and that you don't need "previous weapon" or "previous item" buttons, just use the "next" button to save mapping places, etc. I use this type of economy and it hasnt harmed by gameplay at all.
