Abuse ported to GP2X v1.0 by Senor Quack (Dan Silsby)
Abuse is a famous side-scrolling run and gun game originally released for DOS and Linux in 1996. It features beautiful pixel art, lighting effects, many weapons, and is a real challenge even on normal difficulty.
If you have an F200, just point and kill. F100 users are also supported, as well as those using the traditional keyboard/mouse combo (through USB and the cradle).
My GP2X port features MP3 versions of the MIDI files included with the original game, remastered with a very high quality soundfont collection. This is the only modern version of Abuse that I am aware of that features music.
Installation: All necessary files are included, just unzip anywhere on the SD card and launch abuse.gpe. Use abuse_lh.gpe if you are a left-handed F200 user. Control mappings are shown below the main menu.

When I first encountered Abuse on the PC I hated it... but it seems pretty cool when its on the GP2X XD. I have an F200 and in cases like this wish I didn't, is there any way I could use F100 controls or could you perhaps put the option into the next one? I rather dislike using the touch screen to aim, I'd sacrifice the accuracy for the comfort any day. |

Great news!this must be the best port of pc to gp2x!I also hated this frustrating game back in the 90s.i think now i m going to like it.Good job mate! |

touch doesnt work on my f200 :(
maybe its a problem with the firmware (4.1.1), since i encountered problems with SDL + touch + FW 4.1.1 before...
the screenie looks nice, though :D |

Great porting..I have also a F200 (4.1.1) and touch don't work .TO ENABLE we have to use the Hack by notaz..simply start it before the game. Also i have noted some freezing on intro ... |

Thx a lot!!!Itīs amazing game!!!!On my F200 FW 4.0.0 is full work with touch pad!!!Good job!!! |
How Fun!!! I knew somebody would do this at some point, but man, you *REALLY* did it! Thank you :) |

Sorry about the FW 4.1.1 compatibility problems, I only use 4.0.0 (and with a custom Open2X kernel that I ported). All problems with firmwares will be fixed soon, once Open2X is released. Glad everyone is having fun with it :) Dusk: I will take your suggestion for F200 controls into consideration for v1.1 |

senquack: I'm using Open2x DR4r2 on an F100.2, and I have strange things happening. Sometimes, the game doesn't load. (Either a yellow screen, or a cursor on an unredrawn gmenu2x display.) If it does load, quitting appears to work, but leaves the system unstable, with twitching inputs and flickering screen. |
aloishammer: are you loading the game through the Explorer? If so, the problem when the game quits is a bug in GMenu2X that has been fixed already and should be in the next Open2X release. The solution would be to launch the game through a regular link. As for the game sometimes not loading, I haven't seen that problem on DR4r2 but perhaps will run it through some more paces. You must sometimes be a bit patient when it loads (it's loading a ton of information through a lisp interpreter) |
senquack: I'm loading it through a link, and getting the erratic behaviour. I'm more worried about the controls (stick and volume buttons at least) "flickering," plus the screen draw flicker after I exit Abuse. |
aloishammer: then I would suspect you have the "Wrapper" option turned on for the link when it shouldn't be (i.e., gmenu2x is getting loaded twice upon program exit. I play abuse all the time through Open2X DR4r2 :) |
