| converts windows newlines to linux newlines, attempts to remove gutenberg-style breaks at end of lines while maintaining other aspects of formatting. it's never given me any problems with gutenberg files and works in linux or windows and on the gp2x. only gp2x and windows binaries included. |

It does an admirable job but it places spaces at the start of every sentence and writes EOF characters. EOF doesn't really exist; it's returned from file functions to tell you to stop.
I haven't found a perfect technique but I get good results changing all the combinations of CR, LF and space that I want to retain and then changing all remaining CRLFs to spaces before restoring those that I wanted to keep; you need to read in the whole document to do that.
I've been a Linux user for several years and haven't experienced any problems with CRLFs on Linux. The issue is with LFs on Windows or more specifically Notepad so I don't really see the benefits in stripping CRs. |
