This is a fork of PocketFlash. I will be trying to improve support. Currently, not all of the test suites are working. A few things i want to patch up are png support (Transparency becomes black) and of course sound. Until then, enjoy this release: it includes some test suites as well as some real things. The source for the test suites are availible in FLA format in the src/gp2x/bin of the archive. When building, all files go here. Be sure to read the readme on how to include libflash in builds, its MUCH trickier than it should be. Also, you need the dev-c++ dev kit for this to work easily. I will be working on finding out the code in nanacrash causing it to not work. Happy flashing :) (Notice: I included super drunk mario brothers because it works quite well compared to other flashes and i find it funny. The FPS limiter used to go crazy randomly, but i think i fixed it, so if you expeirence random crashes, tell me.) Controls are:
-Arrow keys move mouse, joystick moves mouse
-Enter clicks mouse, X clicks mouse
-start, ctrl+c, and escape exit.
The screenshot is in vista with areo disabled (Java doesn't support it usually, and i hit a java ad somewhere on the net, which auto-disables areo until the browser exits and thus java isn't running.)
QUICK UPDATE: Fixes for the player! Sound support in the gp2x version. Problems are: the loader is slow as DIRT. give it about 1-2 minutes to load super drunk mario brothers. However, i have gotten the transparency test suite fully working. Next comes audio synchronization. This is a tough one. |

Can I play flv files downloaded form youtube? :) |
I wish. But hey, there are tools to rip YouTube videos and then just run it through a GP2X re-encoder :) (Most of the rencoders run on Linux only, yet the you tube rippers run windows... sorry). FLV support is interesting, i might actually look into it, but identifying what they do for compression is beyond extreme, aside from performance during playback. I think i want to modify this to directly access the framebuffer. I know how, but optimization is going to be a bitch; i'll have to look on the forums for some related threads... or maybe start my own. Right now, i think i'll see where loading freezes at, and see if theres anything i can do. hey, it literally decodes those mp3s and on linux it will play them! (It accesses the kernel directly. I think i will port this to sdl or something.) |

Some thing i should note: Well, you can play videos on newgrounds.com. Just locate one, and when you press the Watch This Movie button a new window pops up.Right click in the black background next to the movie. It may be very slim, in which case, you must use the bar at the buttom. If in firefox, click view page source. In internet explorer, click view source. In internet explorer 7, you may have to verify that your current text editor (Notepad requires no notifications, Notepad++ does) is ok to use. Next, use the find tool. On firefox, this is ctrl+f at the same time on your keyboard and directly type what you want. Usually other programs have this, so its the same for internet explorer. Search SWF. now, you have one entry. Now, you should be at a url, something like https://uploads.ungrounded.net/******/******_Name_Of_Flash.swf If you aren't, try finding again with the same query. If you are, copy all the way from https:// to .swf. (Select it, right click, click copy). In Firefox, be careful when selecting. Its real easy to go out of control. Now, paste this into a browser window address bar. (Right Click in it, click Select all, Right Click in it, click Paste). Now after pasting it into the browser address box, you should press enter or go. Now, you see the flash in the whole window, right? Click file, save as. Save it anywhere. Copy it to some location on your SD card. Viola, start fp2x and select the file. it could take up to 5 minutes in mp3 decoding, it uses lib mad, which seems to be slow. |

Several flashes I downloaded from Newgrounds don't work at all. Also, sound is not supported in every flash. Seriously, somebody needs to improve compatibility. |

Hey, i've been working on this for 2 DAYS total. And keep in mind theres a SHIT LOAD of flash 8 work. Please, don't expect me (A rather new programmer) to make a flash player perfect in 2 days... Just try to understand. Please.... Here's a basic list of things i have to work on: Performance, flash 8, actionscript, sound, transparency, and other little bugs. I have to manage mp3 audio problems, and alot of other things. Hey, if your a really good programmer, feel free to make your own fork, its open source under the GPL license. HOWEVER: I am extremely grateful that you brought up a sound problem. What flash's had this problem? (NOTICE: HUGE SOUND DELAY, IT MAY BE A LITTLE BIT CONTRIBUTING TO THESE PROBLEMS) and you should never count a black screen as "not working" since that loading could theoretically take nearly a half an hour if there was enough ram, but I'm sure this is not the case. Heres what i want for bug reports: Link to the place i can get to the flash, stderr.txt and stdout.txt(in the fp2x directory), both very small usually so paste them if there not blank, and tell me if you have any suspicions why it is not working. The above post is an example of why some open source programs get nowhere: Someone gets pissed because they expected too much and they forgot that even telling what/where/how could help actually FIX the problem. Are you going to tell me the problem? |

thanks for working on this. you've come much further than anyone else attempting flash on gp2x within a short time. really good work. |
yes nmn. thanks for your effort and you should really continue working on this project. by the way i want to ask for your opinion about flv player. it is open source and can play flv files. when i downloaded it, i saw .as files. actually i am a c/c++ programmer and don't know what .as files are. are they actionscript. can we port them to GP2X? |
I don't know much about flv files. FLV player sounded interesting, until i found out that it was AS files. Yes, AS is actionscript, which, essentially, they are using flash to play FLVs while we are trying to recreate flash for the gp2x...
However, i was looking at Gnash yesterday, and i noticed it used people talking about flv frame rate problems. Interesting, because that means it supports frame rates.
I will look at gnash source code to find out how we could implement this. I'll test this, and eventually i might test it with youtube. |
ok. i got the point. i'll try to compile your code tonight and find out if i can help you. if one day i can play a flv file on my gp2x, i will possibly be the happiest person in the world:) good luck with Gnash. |

The actual flash player will build without modifications on a properly set up Dev-C++ windows devkit. On Linux, the provided makefiles might work - I haven't modified them yet. Dev-C++ is extremely elegant, a must have for any programmer whether for gp2x or windows if you run windows.
(err, i meant that means it supported FLVs. But OK.) Currently, i am examining the source code. Since flv files can only be delivered using http/flash com or something like that, we can have an flv file in the same directory as the flash named "video.flv" or the same as the flash except with .flv at the end instead of SWF, and play it as the flash requests so. Then maybe i will make a standalone FLV player :) BTW, in Flash 8 movies, i got a JPEG error: "Improper call to JPEG library in state 202" and it doesn't crash on windows, but the gp2x one does. So, does this mean that, somehow, we aren't on state 202, in other words DSTATE_READY, and we haven't found a SOS? Is the image in flash 8 a new unofficial version, or is quality or settings breaking it? Hopefully, someone here knows a lot about JPEG. This error only happens a set amount of times for a flash... Blockhead: Episode 8 has it happening 4 times. I think it relates to the header of the JPEG, and not being in the right place. As far as i know, The data in all JPEG tags begins with the header, id and JPEG data. But before flash 8, it could technically have an incorrect header of a 0xFF, 0xD9, 0xFF, 0xD8 before the JPEG SOI marker. But considering its before flash 8, and it could be either, we should be able to handle either. I, personally, believe that i am missing something, possibly JPEG 2000 support. Is JPEG 2000 put into flash 8 files? A lot of questions here. Maybe its the fact that this 1997 library doesn't support JPEG 2000 but i don't recall flash using JPEG 2000. |

Discuss about all this on forum @.@ |
OK, its definitely a lot to say. |
(Notice: Will be discussing at gp32x.com) |
nice release nmn, are action script supported now? |
Yes, action script works but can be buggy. I included some tests. Alot of them. |
any chance of a .zip version...? sorry! |
Yes. Next release, probably. If you want to open it now, rarlab.com has both windows and linux utilities for extracting rars. If you need a zip version for another purpose, you can use RAR or winrar. If you just plain can't use either... Well, next release is coming soon, and alot of speed increases are coming your way. |
U must try out super mario land 2 gameboy spoof from newgrounds!! |
So when are you gonna release the next version of flash player 2x. its been over many months and i am wondering if you are going to release it soon. |
V good !
You should strip down the file size a little bit though ! |
do ANY games work?
yes, i know how much flash sucks, proprietary macromedia crap... sigh. |
