GP2X Package Manager is a small program which sits on your SD card and can be used to install packages for your favourite programs with no user intervention. Currently, you can only install individual packages (*.deb files), however future versions will hopefully include a more sophisticated GUI for removal of packages and an online download system, like apt. Upgrading existing packages *is* supported.
Installing the package manager is copying the 'installer' directory included in the zip file to the root of your SD card.
To run the package manager, run 'installer.gpe' from the 'Games' menu and select the package you wish to install from the menu. The screen will go black for a while (this will be made more exciting in the future) then you'll be dropped back to the main menu and your installation will be complete (assuming there were no problems).

Nice :) I hope Program authors will use this system... |

I will, if someone will bother to make a packager, although i think deb packages are nothing more than an archive in an archive. Document this, please, and i will start to release applications with debs. It was only a matter of time until a package manager arouse. Uninstallation and such needs to be included. You are going to write a nice GUI right? Its definitally nice, weather or not its kind of incomplete. Also, i like rpm. Will there be any time we will see an rpm system? |

I've not decided about RPM yet. It wouldn't be hard to add support for installing/removing individual packages, but any future online functionality wouldn't be supported.
You're right about debs being basically an archive inside an archive. If you download the picodrive example package and extract it as if it were a .tar.gz, you can see (I am going to make a simple command line utility for packaging these up as soon as I get chance, along with the nice GUI on the GP2X end).
It's nice that there is some interest at least :D |

Take a look here for a deb making script: https://x11.gp2x.de/filemanager/makedeb.zip |
