STerm is quite useful when your on the go. And hey, you can screw with the internals of the operating system! Just don't rm * -r in the root directory :D |
THE feature we need ! :) What is a Linux without a terminal ? Thank you very much for this project.
As nmn talks about the possibility to delete everything on the device, and it seems GP2X doesn't manage users rights, an improvement could be to forbid such dangerous commands, or warn the user trying to attempt at some system directories. |
no normal user use sTerm, so it shouldn't matter? |
I've seen people ask questions and get answers like "Type this on a terminal and reboot: ..." and some deadly instruction. And one that i saw they followed through. So, maybe if there was a program that could only be run through the command line... Someone would end up using STerm. They could ask a question about it and get something along those lines. Not to mention those moments that your just screwing around and you miss type an instruction. All of those incomplete rm * instructions! I seriously have done wildcards and accidentally hit enter before finishing. |
GP2x surely manages user rights. Create a new user and switch to that user. This will solve the rm -rf / problem. nmn, actually I couldn't understand anything about your comment. Because of my poor English I think... |
Just saying someone could end up using a program ran from the command line and asking for help, and someone replies telling them to enter some sort of deadly instruction and to restart it. |

Very useful and impressive tool! |

Well done. Linux without a terminal is unusable. |

I'm logged in and don't see the facility to rate it. Can somebody explain this?
Regards,
Thunor |

Probably because you've rated it before :P |
Great job, only this way we can call the gp2x a linux-based console :-P |
My Mac puts weird folders into my SD card (.Trashes, .DS_Store, among others) and various programs on the GP2X don't recognize them as hidden (like PicoDrive), so the hidden folders are still displayed, plus I have no need for the folders anyways. This program makes it simple enough for me to remove those pointless folders, so using PicoDrive is a bit more elegant at ROM selection.
The only thing I don't like is that the text input is a bit odd (it works well enough, I guess), the font you chose is a little strange (took me a minute to figure out which character is the '*'), and sometimes the text boxes don't refresh when the character indicator gets above it, leaving a little purple line. For the font, I might suggest Terminus or ProFont (great fonts for programming, so why not a terminal?) but they might not be small enough to replace the existing font. |

I'm running 0.6.0 and when pressing SELECT + L BUTTON to show the available profiles I get an error message "Error: Cannot access to directory.". I have reported it to the developer via his website but I haven't had a reply. Is anybody else experiencing this? I wanted to use this feature so that I can use custom keyboards for Frotz. |
Thunor: mine freezes too when pressing SELECT + L BUTTON (0.6.0 on firmware 3.0). |
perfect app. i am just wondering if it is possible to tweak the fonts so we can get standard 80 characters wide terminal screen. any ideas? joe |
i think making fonts smaller could be possible - please check out this https://www.minefields.org/v2/fonts.php having one character using 3px and 1px as a divider could work. |

jenfil: Thanks for the reply (using firmware 2.1.0). I hope it's fixed soon. |

Hi from the developer;)
Thanks for your comments. I am doing my military obligation since April. And I have to wait till July to fix the errors.

Amazing app - thank you so much for making this. Now I can be a console nerd on the fly (= Previously there was no way to achieve this functionality.
And thank you even more for your military service.
It'd be cool to see Gp2x-write's keyboard emulator integrated with sterm - it'd e faster to write commands that way. Using the virtual keyboard you provide is a but cumbersome, but still usable. |
add f200 touchscreen support please! |
download the new version from https://sourceforge.net/projects/termula2x/
. it is still beta so that i have not uploaded it yet. |
the version from sourceforge has:
- support for selecting keys on virtual keyboard using stylus
- switch keys configuration option to make it easy to use the stylus and buttons at same time
- 80x35 characters mode (really small fonts)
- fixed - using USB keyboard works again
- fixed - no mouse cursor on screen |
Yeah! New release of sterm! And now usb-keyboard is working better!
But not completely: "Alt Gr" does not work, could you please fix this? Although the Numpad ist not working properly, but that's no problem for me.
It would be nice if one could hide/unhide the on-screen-keyboard via pressing vol+ and vol- at the same time or something like that. |
forgot to write about f-200 support. this new version supports f-200 touchscreen. by the way hiding virtual keyboard is a brilliant idea. will try to do this in the next release. |
Nice new features, thank you!
Screen gets a little bit weird, when entering the copy mode (ctrl+a+[ ) could you fix this? |
It seems promising (for my intents at least), but dir seems to be unavailable? |
Oh wait, I see, sorry, kind of a terminal noob. |
