Hotkey daemon is a simple program that runs in the background waiting for a specified key combination to be pressed. When the specified combinantion is detected, it launches a predefined application.
It can be used to restart the gp2xmenu without restarting the device or using a telnet session.
The default installation comes with two sample applications. - blctrl toggles the lcd display on and off. - fbsave takes a screen shot and stores it in raw format. It can be converted to png with the supplied raw2png tool.
Modified version 0.2k allows to define the hotkey combination and includes more sample utilities. |

Oops, add a '&' at the end of line 21 in the hotkey.gpu script. It has to be run in the background. |
Cool!, this is a really usefull piece of software ^_^
Thanks alot. |
Doesn't work for me... i launch it and it does nothing. added the & and put all the files on the sd... :/ |
i got this: HOTKEY_PROG=./blctrl
However, telnet shows me this:
HOTKEY_PROG does not exist, or is not executable
what the heck :// |
Well, does blctrl have the executable bit set? You could try to uncomment those tests in the script. |
Okay, i feel pretty stupid now, but i have no idea what you mean by saying "the executable bit". also, what "tests" should i uncomment? ://
And what are the arguments in the script for? Sorry, but i just never had to do with these kinda things. |
Ok, first try this. telnet to your gp2x. cd to the hotkey directory. type "./hotkeyd blctrl" (without the "). If that doesn't work, then you must set the executable bit with chmod, type "chmod +x *". Hope that helps. |
with ./hotkeyd blctrl i get the message (in telnet) "hotkeyd version 1.0
Copyright (C) 2006, bja."
That's all, it doesnt do a thing in the gp2x. It's like nothing at all happened.
with chmod +x* i get: "chmod: too few arguments"
i bet its something real stupid im doing wrong^^

Well, then it does work. After you have started it sits in the background waiting for you to press and hold the L + R (shoulder buttons) for approx 1 one second. That will (by default) blank the screen. Pressing L + R again will turn the screen back on. Strange that you cannot start it from the menu, though. |

What it is that this is somekind of spiderman game? Please excuse my english he is wrong. |
@spen83
Only if you have really good imagination :-) But for the rest of us it's just an application launcher. |
thanx. i tried this in real nice ways. i arrived happy. |
@bja: even after the "hotkeyd version 1.0 Copyright (C) 2006, bja." message which i only get when i launch through telnet, things dont seem to work. I've tried pressing L+R in the gp2x menu, in gpquake and ssnes but it worked nowhere.
:// i have no idea what the hell i'm doing wrong. is it maybe possible for you to upload a out-of-the-zip working config, so i can see where the problem is at by comparing yours and mines!? that would be reaaal kind :) |
@JePP: mail me if you still have problem with this. the mail is in the README. |
No need for that, it seems to work with kounch's new version :) (btw is it normal you have to wait like 5 seconds with holding the keys down til the program launches?) although it didnt work first. It even rebooted my GP2x comletely once (i'm on a PSU! so no empty batteries!) and once it made my gamma going heeell up. but somehow it works now. 'tis crazy, but thanks anyway for this great tool! |

This @ convention is nonsense. People shouldn't talk @ you, they should talk to you. |
2 spen83: Thanks for pointing out :p
BTW, Could anyone guild me how to set hotkey to run at every boot time. |
