Works great! This is probably the last thing I ever expected to play on my GP2X and here it is. Amazing. Would like to eventually have multiple speeds for cursor movement. |
Nevermind about faster movement speed - overlooked in the readme that you should hold R for faster movement. Nice to see that ;) |

12/8/2008: Couldn't get it to work at first, then I realized that the version of Xcom that I had been running in Dosbox was version 1.2. After installing the 1.4 patch, it not only works, it looks beautiful on the GP2X's screen, and it's rock-stable. Absolutely great, especially for an alpha version. The only things that would improve it are sound (obviously) and a smoother way to scroll the screen when you're in a crash site mission. With the F100, scrolling around with the joystick is a bit hard to control, in that I keep passing by where i'm trying to go. One workaround that i'm using is to click the overview map icon and use that map to point to where I want the cursor to go, then click it again to jump back to the regular mission screen with the screen scrolled to the right spot. One other problem that I've run into (and this isn't a problem with the port)is that once you are in a crash site mission in Xcom, I don't think there's a way to save game until the mission is complete (it's possible that there is and I've missed it). Last night I played a game where I did a crash site mission, and I hunted down and killed 8 aliens on the first small UFO(Probably the most I've ever seen that early in a game!). After I had just killed the last one, I could see the from my GP2X's screen that the battery was dying. I watched the screen fade to white and my rather sucessful mission get lost. I had just saved right before starting the mission, but the mission itself was lost. Bummer.
Anyway..thanks a lot for porting this! It's one of my all time favorites! |

Paradroyd: you can save in the tactical portion by clicking on the "?" button and then you will see a button for "save game" |
In the same place, you can also set scroll speed, fire speed, xcom movement speed and alien movement speed. |

12/9/2008 senquack and MHT:Thanks I thought there might be a way to do it. As much as I've played this game on various systems over the years, I should have figured that out. |

01/16/2009 - Great job on this one! Now that it has full sound it's just about perfect. I'm using it with an F100 with firmware 4.1. I've played solid through a couple sets of fairly high capacity NiMh batteries with no crashes or any other weirdness. |

Outside of emulation, this is the single best thing on the GP2X for me. Thank you M-HT. |
